Description:

  1. Habit and Habitat: a small tree of quick growth, 2-20m high with spreading branches.
  2. Distribution: The plant is common as a street tree in Brisbane.
  3. Morphology:
    Leaf: Paripinnate, leaflets 6-14 pairs, oblong, emarginated, mucronate.
    Inflorescence: Panicles of corymbose.
    Flower: yellow in colour. Calyx divided, petals 5, subequal, Stamens 10, 3 sterile.
    Androceium: stamens 10, anthers are erected and basifixed.
    Gynoceium: Ovary superior, linear and grooved.
    Fruit: Pod flat, brown. Flowering and Fruiting Time: August-May.
    Seeds: seeds are edible.
  4. Propagation: By seeds.
  5. Importance:
    Planted as a roadside tree. Wood from this is highly valued in Chinese furniture making. Has medicinal value.
  6. Location: Botanical Garden, Avenue, Main Enterance Garden, Sports ground, Hostel, Parking area and New Building.
