Description:
Habit and Habitat: The natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forest.
Distribution: IUCN Redlist Status - Critically Endangered species. Indigenous to Mascarene Isles; introduced in India and U.S.A.
Morphology:
Leaf: Broadly ovate, deeply cordate, serrate, petiole 4-18cm long.
Inflorescence: An axillary cyme.
Flower: Pinkish , bracts 3, ovate, sepals linear lanceolate, pubescent outside, persistent. Petals oblique-obovate.
Androceium: Fertile stamens, staminodes 1-1.5 long, carpels 5.
Gynoceium: Ovary oblong, densely villous. Stigmas 5, recurved-coiled.
Fruit: A capsule, sub woody, oblate.
Seeds: Dark brown in colour.
Importance:
Grown as Ornamental in gardens.
